The Winston Churchill Society of Michigan had
an active and interesting year in 2019

HOSTED: DAVID LOUGH

Our Society hosted David Lough at Barton Hills Country Club on May 19, 2019. David discussed his very interesting book “My Darling, Winston” which deals with Winston’s somewhat complicated relationship with his mother and how that relationship evolved over a 40 year period through their correspondence. It was a repeat performance for David who spoke to our Society on November 15, 2015 about his book “No More Champagne” which dealt with Winston’s chaotic personal finances.

HOSTED: KEVIN RADAKER

Our Society was entertained by Professor Kevin Radaker at “An Evening with Winston Churchill “ on July 24, 2019 at Barton Hills Country Club. Professor Radaker did a one man performance of Winston Churchill which was much enjoyed by our members. He even looks like Winston Churchill.

HOSTED: ALLEN PACKWOOD

Our Society hosted Allen Packwood on November 10, 2019 at Barton Hills Country Club. Allen is the Director of the Churchill Archives Centre, Churchill College, Cambridge and has written a wonderful book “How Churchill Waged War: The Most Challenging Decisions of the Second World War”. Our members enjoyed Allen’s informative, insightful, and most interesting analysis of those decisions.

Society President Dick Marsh Made
Churchill Fellow of Westminster College

Society President Dick Marsh was honored to be made a Churchill Fellow of Westminster College on April 1, 2017. Westminster College is located in Fulton, Missouri and is the home of the National Churchill Museum. It is also where Winston gave his famous "iron curtain" speech. The Investiture Ceremony was conducted in a church originally located in London: St. Mary the Virgin, Aldemanbury. It was partially destroyed in the 1940 Blitz and then reconstructed at Westminster College in the late 1950s. Others becoming Churchill Fellows on April 1 included Duncan Sandys, Winston's great grandson, General David Petraeus, and the author Jon Meacham, who delivered the Kemper Lecture based on his book "Franklin and Winston". The Investiture Ceremony was conducted by Edwina Sandys, Winston's granddaughter.
